New Jersey Nursing License and Renewals: What You Need to Know

Things to know about applying for your New Jersey Nursing License:

  • New Jersey is not a nurse licensure compact state
  • No temporary license
  • A permanent license can 10 to 16 weeks to turn around; plan ahead or consider taking a travel in New York or Connecticut, while you wait.
  • If you physically drive to one of the Sagem Morpho locations in NJ to have your fingerprints taken and delivered, processing time will decrease to four to six weeks.

  • Must be SANE certified
  • This is a NURSYS participating state

Documents needed for getting your New Jersey State nursing license

  • Signed application
  • 2x2 color passport photo
  • Notarized affidavit
  • Birth certificate
  • Certificatino and Authorization form for a criminal history background check
  • NJ and FBI fingerprint card
  • VOLs (use NURSYS if applicable)
  • Other supporting documentation as applicable (immigration documentation, name change certificates, supporting court documents, etc.)

Processing fees to be aware of when getting your New Jersey State nursing license

  • $200 to the NJ Board of Nursing ($75 licensing fee, $120 certificat fee, $5 surcharge)
  • $63.19 out-of-state or $67.20 in-state
